„The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.”
/H.P.Lovecraft – The Call of Cthulhu/

I have already written about the russian Evoke Thy Lords‘s limitated split, so i rather ignore any unnecessary round. Actually i should have written earlier about Escape to the Dreamlands – which has a really nicely designed and superbly printed digi-pack – and then about the split, because that’s from last year, while the debut is from 2008, however i can’t do anything about it, fate wanted like this, but no one should worry, no one missed anything, since we are becoming richer with a talented and H.P.Lovecraft themed doom-gothic album.

After the nice intro we can notice immediately that the conception of Evoke Thy Lords is not complicated, but it is nicely succeeded. We don’t live trough a truly deep catharsis, and darkness also appears as a side section next to the suberp tunes, which are sprawling and takes elements from where the typical russian plans’s music used to. Maybe the tracks are too long, but i can’t really call that a mistake, because i am the one, who are overly used to death and trash stuffs. So maybe they need these long tunes to make the listener sink into the folk mass, which serves Cthulhu‘s power with horror and condensed acoustical themes. The disquisition of Evoke Thy Lords‘s values and strange solutions could go on forever, but i rather don’t write it down again, since i have already done that. Alexey Kozlov has already attacked with a serious rattle, while Irina Lovchikova‘s tinkling voice cradles the wearied listener into charm.

They give comfort, and they tell about ancient times and the strange idols of an unknown world while sitting beside the fire, drinking wine, everything is fine and calming, only the furious winter outside and the unexpired time of the night make you think. Walk with open eyes, don’t be a victim…
